NovoGrid by Opoura is our Dublin-based grid analytics team, with strong roots in power system modelling and grid connection studies. Here, you can have real influence in a small specialist team while being part of a much broader technical environment across Opoura.

As our new Power Systems Engineer, you will work hands-on with electricity network analysis, power-flow modelling, and grid studies, helping customers understand network constraints and make better-informed decisions about new projects and grid connections.

Your role

You will join a Dublin engineering team of two Power Systems Engineers and a Principal Engineer, Oisín Doherty, who you will report to. An Account Manager is also based in the Dublin office, creating a close connection between engineering, customers, and commercial priorities.

Your day-to-day work will take you into network models, power flows, constraints, and the assumptions behind the analysis. You might be developing or validating a model, investigating the cause of a network constraint, discussing an engineering question with a colleague, or translating your findings into a clear technical output for a customer.

You will own analysis within your area of experience, with the Principal Engineer providing sparring and review on more complex technical and customer questions. As you build knowledge of our methods and projects, there is room to take on greater responsibility for technical reviews and knowledge sharing within the team.

As part of Opoura's Technology organization, you will also work with specialists beyond the Dublin team. This includes colleagues across product and technology development and relevant technical teams elsewhere in Opoura, including Power Engineering within Digital Services.

Your main responsibilities

• Deliver power system studies, including power-flow modelling, network planning, grid connection assessments, and analysis of network constraints.

• Develop, validate, and maintain electrical network models, ensuring technically sound assumptions, inputs, and results.

• Translate complex analysis into clear technical findings, reports, and recommendations for customers and colleagues.

• Work with the Principal Engineer and wider team to resolve technical questions and maintain quality across engineering deliverables.

• Use Python and other relevant tools to improve modelling methods, automation, and repeatability where it adds value.

• Take accuracy seriously and follow your analysis through to a useful and understandable conclusion.

• Communicate technical topics clearly and enjoy sharing perspectives and knowledge with colleagues.

Your background

You have already gained meaningful hands-on experience with electricity networks and power system analysis, perhaps from a consultancy, utility, transmission or distribution network operator, renewable energy company, or a similar engineering environment.

A specific number of years is less important than having a solid technical foundation and being ready to build on it with broader responsibility.

We imagine that you:

• Have 2+ years of relevant experience

• Understand power system fundamentals and transmission or distribution networks.

• Have experience with Python or another relevant programming language, or an interest in applying coding to engineering analysis.

• Have an educational background in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

• Communicate confidently in English, both in writing and in technical discussions.

Experience with grid connections, network planning, renewable energy projects, utilities, or system operators is valuable. Experience specifically from Ireland or Great Britain is an advantage, but not a requirement if your power systems experience is transferable.

You must be eligible to work in Ireland.
