Grid Analyst Engineer
Join Opoura as Grid Analyst Engineer in Porto: translate grid requirements into robust models, run studies, and help drive the energy transition with a collaborative team.
About the job
We're on a growth journey, driven by deep knowledge and skilled colleagues shaping the future of energy. Together, we deliver smart, scalable solutions that help our clients succeed in the energy transition. Do you want to be part of igniting what's next in energy? Join us.
Opoura’s Power Engineering department is a highly specialized team working with grid connection studies and advanced power system modeling. We help customers connect new or upgraded power plants in line with TSO and DSO requirements, and we develop and maintain the models used in Opoura’s control products and in external customer applications.
Based in Porto, you will join a team that collaborates closely across Portugal and Denmark, and works side by side with Software and SCADA colleagues to make sure control requirements and operational realities are reflected in our analyses.
Your role
As our Grid Analyst Engineer, you will contribute to technical delivery across customer and internal projects. You will support grid studies and modeling work, translate grid requirements into study inputs and modeling assumptions, and build depth in the tools and methods used in real projects.
Key responsibilities
Your main responsibilities as our Grid Analyst Engineer will be:
Interpret and analyze grid codes and interconnection requirements, and translate them into study inputs and modeling assumptions
Build, validate, and maintain power system models and run simulations in tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT
Develop aggregated plant representations for grid approval, integrating multiple generation technologies including PV, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Run and document grid operation studies in line with regulatory requirements, including power flow, short-circuit, and fault analysis, plus relevant dynamic studies
Support control modeling and validation activities in MATLAB/Simulink
Contribute to automation and implementation tasks using Python and/or C/C++ to improve model quality and workflow efficiency
To be successful in this position, you:
Manage multiple project contributions in parallel while meeting quality expectations and agreed deadlines
Demonstrate strong team spirit by supporting colleagues, collaborating across projects, and proactively seeking or offering help when needed
Apply a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to technical challenges and communicate clearly when something needs attention
Develop and maintain a solid understanding of power system operation and analysis, including power flow, short-circuit, and fault studies
Build a strong foundation in control systems and how they interact with grid requirements
Your background
You are a results-driven team player who likes getting to the bottom of technical problems without overcomplicating them. You take ownership of your work, bring a practical mindset, and learn quickly through hands-on delivery and feedback.
2+ years experience in power system modeling or a closely related engineering role
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
Experience with PSS/E and PSCAD, and preferably also DIgSILENT PowerFactory
Working knowledge of Python and/or C/C++ for implementation or automation tasks
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink from work, thesis, or project settings
Fluent in English and Portuguese
Able to be in the Porto office at least 2 days per week
