At Opoura, we work with power system analysis and network planning to support renewable energy integration and grid development. Our work is closely linked to system operator requirements and real-world grid operation, ensuring that our methodologies, models, and products meet the standards expected by utilities and regulators.
NovoGrid by Opoura, based in Dublin, is a key part of Opoura Digital Services. With strong roots in power system modelling and grid connection studies, the team brings deep domain expertise and works closely with colleagues across Opoura to deliver scalable solutions across markets.
You will join the team in Dublin, working with grid studies, network planning, and modelling across Ireland, Great Britain, and comparable markets. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across engineering and commercial functions, as well as with external stakeholders such as system operators and utilities.
Your role
This role is suited for someone with a strong technical foundation in power systems who is ready to take on increased responsibility, as well as for more experienced engineers who want to contribute at a senior level.
You will work with power system studies, grid connection assessments, and network planning projects, taking responsibility for technical delivery while contributing to the development of modelling approaches and quality standards.
The role combines hands-on technical work with stakeholder collaboration across engineering and commercial functions. You will play an active role in technical decision-making, ensure consistency and quality across deliverables, and support a structured and reliable approach to project execution.
You will also contribute to supporting and guiding colleagues and to how we develop our technical capabilities and ways of working across the team.
Key responsibilities
Your main responsibilities as our Principal Engineer will be:
In this role, you contribute to both technical delivery and team development. This includes:
Leading or contributing to power system studies, grid connection assessments, and network planning projects
Reviewing and ensuring quality and consistency in technical analyses, reports, and modelling results
Providing guidance on transmission and distribution network topics, particularly in Ireland and Great Britain
Collaborating with engineering and commercial teams to align technical work with project and client needs
Engaging with system operators, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders where relevant
You will also contribute to supporting and mentoring colleagues and to improving modelling approaches, workflows, and technical processes across the team.
To be successful in this position, you:
Success in this role comes from combining strong technical understanding with a structured and collaborative approach to engineering work.
You typically:
Apply a systematic and analytical approach to power system analysis and network planning
Take responsibility for your work and contribute to high-quality project delivery
Communicate technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Maintain consistency and accuracy across analyses and deliverables
Contribute to a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared and developed
Your background
You bring deep power systems expertise, and you’re known for taking ownership of technical outcomes. You combine strong judgment with a pragmatic delivery mindset, and you communicate in a way that builds trust, internally and externally. You enjoy coaching others and improving how work gets done.
You bring experience within power systems engineering, ideally related to transmission or distribution network planning and grid connection studies.
The ideal candidate:
Has experience working with power system analysis, grid connection studies, or network planning
Has experience with tools such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT, or similar power flow software
Has a degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
Has experience working in or with utilities, system operators, or consulting environments
Is confident in stakeholder-facing settings, able to translate complex analysis into clear, practical recommendations
It is a prerequisite that you are eligible to work in Ireland and are fluent in English.
Experience in Ireland or Great Britain, including familiarity with grid codes and connection processes, is an advantage.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement listed.
